Italo Zucchelli for Calvin Klein
Italo Zucchelli could have made a great architect. Thankfully, he quit his architectural studies after two years and started designing which led to Jil Sander, which led to Calvin Klein and those sexy suits ( which again, we are very thankful for). Zucchelli says he first saw Calvin Klein ads in 1982 when the Olympic pole-vault athlete Tom Hintnaus was modeling.. (Ok, I know you are curious, so I am throwing in one picture of those good ‘ol times below..)
After 4 seasons at Calvin Klein Italo Zucchelli was promoted to the creative director of menswear and continues to make sophisticated yet surprisingly effortless designs for those men who simply crave style.
The latest: After being nominated in 2007 and losing to Ralph Lauren, Italo wins the CFDA award in 2009. In 2009, he also surprised the public by using unique materials in his collection like the foam from bicycle seats.
If I get one question…
Q: What are your signature designs?
IZ: ” The perfect leather jacket, a sharp blazer, a skinny sexy pant, a multi-seamed shirt with a complicated construction, a wearable accessory (such as bag-belt, or a bag worn under clothes).”
